What Does It Take To Go With Epik Missions?

First, you must be truly interested.  This seems so straight forward, but these trips are not a vacation. They require a great deal of sacrifice on the part of the person going, as well as their family.  If you think you are interested, contact Dr. Chad by sending him an email, telling him why you would like to go on the next trip or send a request to get more information.

He will send you a link to the application that you will be required to fill out and return. Once it is received and reviewed, a video conference call will take place with Dr. Hawk. This is the first of two interviews to discern whether or not you are right for the trip.  The second one will be with Dr. Hawk and a past Epik Missions team member in person.  These interviews are also your time to ask all the important questions you have about the trip that the FAQ’s section did not answer for you.

If you are selected for the team, a number of important steps must be completed in a precise order.  Your non-refundable deposit must be submitted. You must make sure your passport is current and will not expire within six months of the trip.  You must buy your plane ticket.  You must get all recommendation letters organized and submit your passport, letters, and application to your country’s Ghanaian embassy or consulate for a travel visa. After all the previously stated steps are completed you will be required to pay the remainder of your balance for the trip. Finally, the last step, get on the plane to Ghana!

You must be in good physical condition to go on an Epik Missions trip. NO EXCEPTIONS! You must be able to work for up to 12 hours in a day in hot weather.

You must be willing to let go of old ways of doing things. In other words, you must be flexible and ready to learn.

You must be able to afford the cost of the trip, airfare, and pre-trip costs for visa, passport, and other expenses. Plan on the trip costing you a minimum of $3,000 USD.  (The money you pay Epik Missions covers, breakfast, nightly dinner, water, shared room, and in country travel expenses. You are responsible for your lunch, any beverage other than water, and any travel expenses that are not part of the Epik Missions travel itinerary).
